SECTION D: BIOLOGY

Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from the leaves of plants.

High temperature and a sunny day (low humidity, a warm breeze)

Title: To show transpiration in plants

Apparatus: Small plant, plastic bag, cobalt chloride paper

Method:

1. Water the plant well.

2. Place the plastic bag over the plant and tie around the base of the stem (ensure the bag is tied at the stem and not around the pot).

3. Leave the plant in a warm place for a few days.

4. Drops of liquid will be observed on the inside of the plastic bag.

5. Test the liquid with cobalt chloride paper.

Result: The paper changes from blue to pink, indicating that the liquid is water.
